This week I signed a contract with Shadow Spark Publishing for my next book, THE SEA HUGS HARD. I started writing this manuscript in 2020 as part of my Covid-inspired lockdownarama during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). I had the pleasure of workshopping this manuscript in the #5amwritersclub’s “Unforgettable Characters & Incredible Journeys” virtual writing retreat in 2021 and am grateful to Ralph Walker and the other participants for their helpful feedback. Anyway, I can’t wait until spring 2024 to share Harman Bass with you. Here’s the info:
1966. Surfside City, New Jersey. Reporter Harman Bass is handed the juiciest news story of the year after the daughter of a prominent family is found dead on the beach. When Harman learns the murder victim is his old girlfriend, the assignment becomes personal. Harman’s dogged reporting reveals pushback from the authorities, and soon the newshound is pulled into the seaside resort’s darkest corners. He learns the family-friendly atmosphere isn’t all salt water taffy and Ferris wheel rides. The corrupt townsfolk are too good at burying their secrets, despite how much Harman digs. Racing against time to expose the truth, Harman confronts an ancient evil more unforgiving and older than the briny deep. And the deep is always hungry.
THE SEA HUGS HARD is a mystery with the salty whiff of the ocean, a tinge of nostalgia, and a dollop of mind-shattering eldritch horror.
I enjoyed Harman Bass when I first met him at that retreat in 2021, and I am excited to learn what he’s up to. You are on fire, Eric, way to go!
