It’s a sweltering inferno where I live, a humid and oppressively hot summer. Writing now is not ideal, but I escape on weekends to an undisclosed location with air conditioning and a swimming pool and find it a suitable writing retreat. Whatever makes the words happen, right?
The second book of The Martyr’s Vow series, Mr. Penny-Farthing, was honored with two accolades recently. It was named a finalist in the Horror: Occult and Horror: Supernatural/Paranormal categories in the American Fiction Awards. The spooky novel was also named a finalist in the Suspense category in the 2024 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.

I submitted a few short stories for consideration in multiple markets, so I’m just waiting to hear back. Writing is all about getting used to rejection and battling impostor syndrome. Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve always wanted to be a novelist, but writing is hard. Finding an audience is hard. Staying on course and continuing when everything is trying to knock you down is hard. Writers have to be half narcissist and half masochist in order to keep going.
