Hopepunk

My short story “Kindness is the Rarest Thing” is out in the world, tucked safely inside Interesting Times: A Hopepunk Anthology from End of the World Publishing. The story takes place in a brutal dystopia controlled by The Agenda, a shadowy organization that rewards hatred and violence. The protagonist, Mac, a jaded book hoarder from a simpler time, is a government informant with a change of heart. Mac is haunted by his past, and longs for goodness. That goodness takes the form of Shasa, his upstairs neighbor who owns a nursey filled with genetically-modified plants. One of these plants, a beautiful blue flower that responds positively to kindness, entrances Mac with its soothing qualities. But in a world of abject cruelty, can such a splendid thing survive?
